Stop following trends!

Is this title a little aggressive? Yes. Is the point there? Also yes. I guess I really shouldn’t be so definitive as to say stop following trends full stop. What I really mean is stop molding your style to fit the trends that are popular at the moment. A trend should fit seamlessly into your personal style. I can get bothered when I see people only following trends and lacking any creativity or sense of self in their clothing, makeup, hair etc. See, I love a cute trend as much as the next girl but that doesn’t mean I buy into all of them.

Having Carolyn Bessette as the cover for this blog seems perfect. To me, her style is so consistent and timeless. I always look to her when I am wondering if something I want to wear or am wearing will last the test of time. I also love how subtle her style was. She would go as far as to have any labels taken off her clothes. I mean this little tangent about her is a bit off track but if you’re looking for an example of someone who didn’t follow trends she is the perfect girl to pick.

I guess what I’m trying to say is stay true to your own, unique style and if you feel like you don’t have one just try to find the clothes you feel best and most confident in. I really appreciate when people have a style that is consistent and fits who they are as a person. Even if someone’s style is completely different from mine, I still love to see it. I find so many people waste their time, money, and honestly effort on fitting a certain trend that in this climate will be out in about 24 hours. Which the speed of trends these days is a whole other topic I could ramble about, but I’ll spare you guys.

Anyways, the moral of the story is: wear what you like and don’t change your style because the trend changed.
